PAVARD - THE NEXT BIG THING!
Recognise the name? After the world cup you probably do. Even if you have no idea who he is or where he plays then you'll definitely remember this goal...
On the 16th on June when France lined up against Australia you would be forgiven for asking who the random right back for France was. Before the world cup started he was just another right back playing in the Bundesliga for VfB Stuttgart. In fact he didn't play for France until November of 2017. He's actually played in more world cup finals matches (7) than he has friendly games for his country (5).
At only 22 years of age Pavard already posses many of the qualities of a top class defender. At just over 6ft tall Pavard is not a player who possesses great speed, hence why a lot of the time he plays centre back for Stuttgart. Having only played 3 years of professional football Pavard possesses composure that would not go amiss amongst the best in the world, having faced up against the likes of Lewandowski, Ribery and Reus last year he stared at CB when Stuttgart battered Bayern 4-1 in the final game of the season last year inflicting Bayern's first home league defeat in over 2 years. Everything that you would want from a defender Pavard can do. Great technique in tackling and heading Pavard is a player who in years to come may become a defender that attackers dread to face.
Pavard's break out year can be highlighted in the final 3 months of the Bundesliga season where in the final 14 games a relegation threatened Stuttgart only conceded 10 goals meaning they climbed the table to 7th and only just missed out on Europe. Throughout the season Pavard also showed his excellent flexibility playing in 4 different positions moving from the common, CB and RB to also the less regular CDM and RW.
A 22 year old with only 1 full top flight season under his belt (Quite literally as he was one of only 4 players to play every second of the season, showing his brilliant stamina) Pavard is yet to actually break into the big leagues but with a World Cup winners medal round his neck and his first ever individual accolade coming in the form of goal of the tournament through the goal shown above. But this year will be the year which Pavard emerges. If the world cup was the way to get his name into the public then this coming season will be the year where he becomes the NEXT BIG THING, a move to a giant club is imminent with Bayern doing the usual of scooping up all Bundesliga talent I would not be suprised to see the World cup winner move their, or even a move back to his home in France where you'd think the locals would welcome him with open arms.
