It happens every season, a surprise someone will appear on the scene after having outscored some of Europe’s finest. A lot of the time they fall into the category of ‘one season wonder’ this usually becomes apparent after having made a big money move to a top team. Morata, Carroll, Kramaric just to name a few off the top of my head.
Sometimes a striker’s early season form can be a one off of flourish of skill and talent, a link to a top team and then nothing. But when you score 5 goals in a single game in one of Europe’s top leagues, people are going to notice.
Luka Jovic on the 19th of October scored a stunning 5 goals against Fortuna Dusseldorf in a 7-1 thrashing. Since then myself and, I imagine a lot of Europe’s top teams have been keeping a close eye on the Serbian striker, and he has not disappointed.
The 21-year-old has scored 18 goals and given 3 assists since joining on loan from Benfica. His most recent coming on the 19th of January in a 3-1 win against Freiburg, finishing calmly under the keeper taking his league tally to 13 for the season, more than the likes of Reus and Lewandowski.
Currently 12 on the European golden boot chart Jovic is only a handful of goal away from putting himself in the mix with some serious names.
He’s fast, skilful and an incredibly good finisher. Left foot, right foot and for someone who’s only 5’11” is very dangerous from set pieces. He’s already being linked with a host of moves to bigger teams but as he is on loan from Benfica the likelihood is, he will stay in Germany at least until the end of the season. So keep an eye on this hot 21 year old because for every goal he scores from now until the end of the season his price is going to shoot.
Now I’m not going to say that you should absolutely listen to me but lets look at the players I’ve written about in the past:
Weston McKennie (Article 3rd October 2017) Since then he’s become a regular first team started for Schalke, played for his country 6 teams and is fast becoming the shining light of US football in Germany. He is also being targeted for a £20 million move to the premier league.
Denis Zakaria (Article 5th October 2017) Now regular started for Gladbach and Switzerland and has been touted as Dembele’s replacement at Spurs.
Benjamin Pavard (Article August 2018) Has just complete a £31 million move to Bayern Munich to whom he’ll move to in the summer.
Krzysztof Piatek as we speak looks destined to maker a £35 million deal to AC Milan.
That’s one hell of a streak if you ask me, thanks for reading.
