This season so far we have see the revival of two things over in Germany. The first one is Borussia Dortmund who are unbeaten and top of the Bundesliga the other is the player at the helm of that revival. That player is Paco Alcacer.
Towards the end of the 17-18 season it looked as though Alcacer was going to fade into oblivion. After a 30 million move from his long time club Valencia to Barcelona, Alcacer was considered one of the best up and coming players in whole of Spain but after only 37 appearances mainly as a sub in two years and only 10 goals to his name Alcacer looked to have become a victim to the Barcelona elitist system. But new Dortmund manager Lucian Favre decided to take a chance on the Spanish striker and offer him a way back into first team football. He joined Dortmund on a season long loan with an option to buy of 30 million. He may not of fulfilled that price tag at Barca but he is certainly doing that this season.
Alcacer’s stats this season were impressive before coming off the bench to score against England but now they stand at this…
Since the 14 of September Alcacer has been involved in 6 consecutive games in all competitions. In those 6 games he has scored 10 goals. Which is really impressive on its own, however it gets better. Alcacer has been utilised as a super sub this season and has only played 1 full 90 against Monaco in the champions league. In total Alcacer has played only 277 minutes of football meaning he’s currently averaging a goal every 27.7 minutes which is an incredible stat. In the Bundesliga alone he’s averaging a goal every 14 minutes.
But its not only the goals in such a short amount of time but its also the way he’s been scoring them. He’s shown himself to be a poacher with clinical finishing inside the box, he showed his heading ability against England with an impressive backwards looping header and against Augsburg he came off the bench and scored an incredible 33 minute hattrick to bring Dortmund from behind 3 times to win the game 4-3. His goal to win the game in 95th minute was an incredible freekick from 30 yards.
He has been truly incredible so far this season and still only at the age of 25 if he can keep up this kind of form he could be regarded as one of the best strikers on the planet at this moment.
