Right, now that college work is out of the way time to get into the important stuff, I’ve decided I’m going to start a monthly review of Rovers’ season, so every month take a look back at each game, look whose played well and who hasn’t, maybe rant about the Venkys every now and again ect ect. Anyway let’s take a look into the start of 2017 January.
First off the January transfer window…or rather not? So what did we actually do? We kept one player, we loaned one player and did something with Ambrose? And that’s it, I mean Paul Senior really did his job well, right? All those funds we supposedly had to bring in players but instead we brought in a reject from Sheffield on loan who seems to have a small case of the Chris Brown syndrome. We sort of got Ambrose because he’s been snapchatting from inside Brockhall and has been training with the team yet nothing has been announced to my knowledge? The theory that I have heard is that he’s had his permit denied? Which I imagine is pissing him off more than anyone? We’re more than a week passed deadline day and now he is stuck inside the training ground for the rest of the season, it would be nice to get some insight in to what’s actually happening but I suppose that’s a lot to ask of Blackburn.
But the best piece of business for Blackburn was retaining the services of Marvin Emnes. Personally I don’t understand why people don’t like him, he’s fast and skilful for god sake, what more do you want, at least he’s exciting to watch.
Anyway to the matches, couldn’t have got off to a better start really, a complete battering of the team at the top of the league a complete walk over and “CAN WE PLAY YOU EVERY WEEK!” Yet again the myth the Legend Mulgrew came to Blackburn’s rescue and once again applied a crushing blow in a victory that I couldn’t have been happier to watch, it’s interesting as I was walking down Bolton road I said to my dad “What are the odds of Blackburn winning and Mulgrew scoring again?” well it was actually 85/1 so a missed opportunity on my part. But no, the defence put on one of their rare performances and Steele aka the most inconsistent man in football put in a fully sterling performance, well played!
Then into the FA Cup a trip down to London, QPR another decent performance by Feeney, of all people, and an own goal was enough to see Blackburn through to the next round which was to be a home derby against Blackpool cue the protests.
On the 14th of Jan we travelled to the steaming heap of Ipswich, Portman Road a new swear word round Blackburn because when you hear your travelling there the following week you may as well look at the table now and take a look at how many teams are going to pass you, unfortunately for us there aren’t many teams who can actually pass us. Anyway Tom ‘miss one on one’ Lawrence made us pay for letting him go by scoring a brace and by making Steele look like the donkey he can occasionally be. Even goals from Akpan and Graham weren’t enough to salvage a point. The 11th time this season Blackburn would lose by a single goal and the 4th time we would lose 3 – 2.
Nevertheless a match back at Ewood and an opportunity to put things right against a good Birmingham squad, but 2 minutes into the match and it seemed as if that opportunity had jumped ship after conceding a stupid penalty after only 2 minutes, another opportunity for a player to make Steele seemingly defy all logic and laws of physics by conceding a penalty that he saved to his left yet somehow managed to go in the right hand side? Go figure. But just before half time the, one goal every now and again, machine Danny ‘tubby’ Graham managed to bring things level and salvage a point for Rovers.
And finally derby day or protest day or Boycott day came round as the legendary El Crapownerco classic returned to Ewood. Controversially I went to the game not because I support Venkys ,because believe me I don’t, but instead because I wanted to go watch my team play while I still can, you got a problem with that feel free to message me on why I’m an arse sucking bastard who supports the people running his club. Luckily I was one of the ‘few’ Blackburn fans who was able to watch this awful awful game but see an exceptional goal from the hero Elliot Bennet a goal so good that I would say my celebrations were on par to a last minute winner on FIFA.
And that wrapped up January 3 wins 1 draw and 1 loss, you can’t be disappointed at that!
Now for the inaugural Rovers Reports monthly awards!
These awards have been carefully considered and in the future will actually be voted for this month it was just me so sorry about that. Anyway cue the fireworks!
