It can’t be denied we have had a sh** start to this season 8 games in one win. It’s not good yes the win has lifted some heads but we need to make sure that we don’t become too optimistic after only one win.
The 3-0 victory over Charlton was perfect. The team looked confident and fans were excited. The team that Bowyer picked was the team that everyone has been begging for. Steele back in the team, Olsson starting the game, Kiota finally starting and a midfield that worked! A lot of people have been giving Corry Evans a lot of stick but on Saturday he reminded everyone why we bought him his distribution was good and his combination play with Guthrie reminded us of the days of when Cairney and he had just started.
The fact is that the only player who didn’t look up to scratch was Ben Marshall he looked slow unmotivated and some of his decisions just weren’t…well Ben Marshall. Last season we would have games where he would carry us on his own. It got to a point where he was scoring Free kicks almost every game. So what has happened? Personally I believe that he has been unsettled by transfer rumours. Let’s face it at the moment we are not considered a big team, and that’s what Marshall wants. He knows that on his day he could fit into a big club and with better players around him who knows what heights he could reach? Now I don’t know what Bowyer said to the team that gave us that performance against Charlton but he needs to say it to Marshall because if he can get him back up to speed then I really can see Rovers racking in the results.
The fact is that I would say we are in a bad spot but we’re really not. 6 points takes us up to inside the top 8. And yes Charlton are not the best team in the league but if the team can continue to fight the way that they have the last two games then we will be ok. The good times are ahead we just need to push through the hard times first.
