Yes I know its not about Blackburn but bare with me!
Leicester city. A name of a team who if I had told you about 1 year ago would be top of the Prem with 8 games to go, you would have probably handcuffed me called the police and locked me away in a psychiatric hospital. But no. like that dream football manager career where you take Blyth Spartans to the premier league title in just six seasons and on the way you win every other trophy conceivable in the world then you won’t stop telling people for the next month how you’re the best manager in world. Just like that Leicester seem to be about to live the dream and as a fan of Blackburn and football I would be absolutely delighted if they went on to win the league, As it would mean much more than just huge recognition and funding for Leicester. Oh no Leicester would send shock waves through the whole foundation of football by not only proving every critic wrong but also dissolve the idea that football was completely run by money. The idea that only clubs that can afford big can win big will be almost eradicated. In the 2015/16 season Leicester have spent around £35m in transfer with their biggest transfer being Shinji Okazaki for around £7,000,000 this is compared to Championship team Middlesbrough spending £11,000,000 on Jordan Rhodes. To me what this shows how good Claudio Ranieri is at buying players. He has a clear idea about the sort of players that he wants at the club: Hardworking, energetic, committed and willing to fight for their place, and my god how it’s working. To watch a play of football so fresh and energetic is amazing. They don’t even need to dominate games to win them, most of the time Leicester only manage to get about 40% possession each game. But there counter attacking is one of the most dominate forms of attack that I have ever seen.
The list of superlatives that I could use to describe the way that Leicester play go on and on, but it’s not only the idea that they are dominating with less possession and with (supposedly) weaker players but it’s the idea that they have single handily shown that any team given the right attitude can win the league (I hope). This time last year Leicester were bottom of the league and had ,for a very long time, looked as I they were going to go down but then it was around this time 1 year ago that the revival started…then it continued into the next… and continued further. And before you know it their favourites to win the league and 5 points clear. Not just 5 points clear but 5 points clear of spurs! Which is a completely different rant altogether but it really shows how mad this season has been!
Just imagine in 2036 Leicester have won the league a further 5 time and the champions league, Aston Villa are a Sunday league team in the final of the North Birmingham McDonalds cup, The Tyne-wear derby is settled on a game of rock, paper, scissors because they drew to many times and West Brom v Stoke is now bigger than el Classico after West Brom got bought by President of the world Donald Trump and the Stoke team is just full of Ex-Barcelona players including 48 year old Messi. Listen if Leicester can win the league then anything can happen
