Only 8 games left, 8 of maybe the most important games that this club has ever had to play. As Mowbray put it “every game is a final” and it really is, more than we could possibly imagine. From the supporters meeting there was two things that I took away from it; Mowbray is perfect for the Blackburn job, he’s a realest he knows what the supporters want to here and he has the upmost confidence that his team will not be relegated. However the second thing that I took away from the meeting was how absolutely up the creek we really are, the club taking out loans which we can’t pay back and the genuine threat of administration could be lurking at any time.
The Venkys are not going to leave, that’s it. They will asset strip this club until it is the bare bones of the glorious club that it used to be, or if our fortunes changed, they would ride the riches that come with it. My view is that relegation really isn’t an option, we get limited revenue as it is but relegation would mean devastation. I’m of the belief that if we got relegated then there would be no way to come back ever, the damage is already done and the scars that it will leave none the club won’t be covered by any cheap plastic surgery.
But I don’t think will be relegated and I’ll tell you why:
Since Mowbray has come in there has been a real change in attitudes in the players, Mowbray has come in and laid the situation out plain and simple, the players are now playing like a team who are fighting for something. Twice the team have come back in the dire seconds of the game to salvage points and you can see what it means to them. Yes we should have held on at Norwich and Preston but had we got those results earlier in the season they would have been treated as victories. Under Mowbray we have played 4 top 10 teams and taken 6 points off them, that doesn’t sound like a team who should be fighting relegation to me?
Brighton, Reading, Barnsley, Forrest, Bristol, Wolves, Villa, Brentford the 8 games that will eventually decide our fate, the 14th- 22nd of April become the biggest 8 days in recent history, all relegation rivals and all with clawing distance, even two wins from that 3 could pull us up to 16th! A chance to drag surrounding teams down, and more importantly teams who deserve it! Every team that we have played under the Mowbray era, their fans have highlighted how we don’t look like a team who should be where we are and I think the players know that, they don’t want to be league 1 players and as much as some fans would have you believe even Jason Lowe is better than that standard.
Another advantage we have is how not only we have to play teams around us but also that the teams around us have to play each other which means that they could all drag each other down as well. Plus 3 of the teams that we have to play are no longer playing for anything Barnsley, Villa and Brentford aren’t playing for anything and is a massive opportunity for us to get points on the board.
But one thing we have to avoid is the possibility of fighting for survival on the last day, there are too many examples of teams throwing it away on the last day, we cannot be reliant on other teams results we have to be in control of our own destiny because if we’re not then you can only assume the worse.
We can’t get relegated and I don’t think we will but that has to be a certainty before the last day otherwise we’re going to have a very gloomy transfer window. Thanks for reading.
