The month Sancho became a star
October has been a big breakout month for at least 2 Brits abroad but today we’re are going to be looking at the 3 most successful. If a Brit who I mentioned last time is not on this list it is either because they have been relatively unused by their teams or they have been in the youth squads. In this we want to look at the players who are featuring for their first team in the league on a regular basis. With that said we look first at…
Jake Clarke-Salter, 21 (CB)
JSC for short is one of the many many many Chelsea loanees who have only ever featured once for the Chelsea first team after being pushed out by foreign imports. The last few seasons haven’t been great for the 21 year old Centre Back having only made a total of 23 first team appearances since 2016 for Bristol Rovers and Sunderland respectively. But since joining Chelsea second team Vitesse he has started in all of the last 10 games getting a red card in his first appearance in a Europa league qualifier but since completing a full 90 minutes on 8 of the 9 occasions. Becoming one of Vitesse most consistent players and constantly receiving high ratings for his good performances. This month Jake playing in all 3 games for Vitesse playing a staring role in a 4-0 win against Hercules, he came off at half time in a 2-0 loss to Excelsior with a nock and the returned to play another full 90 in a 2-1 win against Fortuna Sittard.
It looks as if JSC is going to be one of the staring players for Vitesse this season acting as a regular rock at the back. He definitely isn’t in the most competitive league in the world but he also isn’t in the best team meaning his defensive skills are going to be key for Vitesse to have a good season. 2 wins, 1 loss and a clean sheet this month for Jake see’s him star as one of the top foreign playing English players this month.

Reiss Nelson, 18 (ST)
Jadon Sancho isn’t the only Brit enjoying life in the Germany. Arsenal Loanee Reiss Nelson caught the eye of some eagle eyed football watchers when he scored a goal on his debut for Hoffenheim in a 18 minute cameo in a 2-1 loss to Duesseldorf. After that game he made a brief appearance in Champions League and got 45 minutes against Hannover. So his name slowly faded back into obscurity.
But October has been a breakthrough month for Nelson. He scored a late goal in a 2-1 loss to Frankfurt and would then go on to score his first professional brace against Nuernberg in a man of the match performance in which he was the difference in a 3-1 win. First scoring the equaliser with a sweetly hit volley from inside the area and followed that up with the goal to take his team head with a brilliant finish high into the net from 7 yards to finish off a brilliant team move.
The most recent achievement for the 18 year old striker was his first ever full 90 in a 4-0 win for Hoffenheim over Stuttgart in which Nelson played a right attacking midfielder position.
It should also be noted that Nelson made his debut for England u21s scoring 2 goals in 2 games including an absolutely brilliant freekick and the winner in a 2-0 win over Scotland. Which you can watch in the video below. But
6 games, 5 goals and a man of the match performance. That’s a month that Reiss will want to live out again.

Jadon Sancho, 18 (LW)
Now we come to the reason why I decided to do this in the first place. Jadon Sancho. Everyone has been talking about this young man for weeks now especially after his end to September which saw him score his first professional goal. But since then he has gone strength to strength and has probably had one of the best months of his life.
It started with a champions league game against Monaco which Dortmund won 3-0, Sancho got one of the assists. He then played a crucial role in a Dortmund’s thrilling 4-3 win over Augsburg.
Then Sancho got his big break and announced himself to the English public when he came on and played in his first international first team game for England and almost had an instant impact creating to opportunities, using his skill and pace in only 12 minutes.
After this came the best week in his career. A goal in Dortmund’s 4-0 win over Stuttgart, another goal and his first champions league goal against the brick wall of Athletico Madrid team which Dortmund beat 4-0. And then Sancho’s first brace against Hertha Berlin.
2 assists, 4 goals and a first England team appearance. Sancho has been hyped up by the British press and he is taking it in his stride. If Sancho can keep up this form through the season, make no mistake. He WILL be playing in England by August 2019.
An Honorable mention must be made to Sheyi Ojo who has regularly been making regular substitute appearances for Reims but as of yet hasn’t made much of an impact.
