Jordan Rhodes. Our super Jordan Rhodes. Since joining the club 3 years ago, for a club record fee of £8million, Rhodes has got himself a nice 78 goals in 150 games for the club. Which is just over a goal every other game. It took him some time this season to get his goals tally up and running but now he has scored 5 goals in his last 4 games.
Rhodes is already considered a legend to some people but he could very well confirm that legendary this season if he continues his current form. At the beginning of this season it looked very well like Rhodes might not have been a player at the club for much longer after rumors that hull and Middlesbrough were interested in steeling the sticker off us. Then later those rumors were confirmed after it was announced that Middlesbrough had put in an offer of around £15million. After this news came through a lot of fans lost hope thinking that it was impossible for the owners to refuse an offer of this magnitude whilst in the middle of the embargo. Some said that they would be fine with letting Rhodes leave for that much others were not. But the owners managed to gain a lot of respect from a large group of fans, for the first time in a long time, when it was announced that they had rejected the offer! This sent shock waves through both Blackburn and Middlesbrough as neither set of fans and even in Middlesbrough’s case the manger could believe that this had happened. The Middlesbrough fans managed to start trending on twitter with #FreeJordanRhodes.
This trend was massively accelerated after rumors that Rhodes was frustrated by not being allowed to talk to the club. Some fans feared after this news that he would not regain his goal scoring form due to being unsettled others thought he would put in a transfer request and force the move. And for a section of those fans they thought there fears had been confirmed when Rhodes entered games looking uninterested and unmotivated. For some games he didn’t even make the starting 11. But now it seems that the old Rhodes is back and is as good as ever!
But why does this mean that he could reach legendary status as a Blackburn Player? Because now with 37 games left Rhodes only needs 22 more goals to hit a target that only 6 others have ever reached for rovers. Bryan Douglas (1952) , Ted Harper (1923), Jack Bruton (1929), Alan Shearer (1992), Tommy Briggs (1952) and obviously Simon Garner (1978) all of these legends are part of a privileged club that Rhodes could be joining very soon. Literally the 100 club. 22 goals would put Rhodes equal with Bryan Douglas of exactly 100 goals!
Will Rhodes do it this season?
Will he still be at the club long enough to do it?
And would you consider him a Rovers legend?
