We are in a very worrying time, it’s true. With the Venkys still choosing to remain quiet over the future of the club and whether or not they will sell to supposed buyers. What’s more worrying about this is the fact that we are not scared of something that has happened or that something that is going to happen, but instead it’s the worry about what’s not happening and the fact that we have no idea what the team will look like next season. Including manager. We are a position where there are 7 players out of contract, we have no manager and hardly any backroom staff.
Now for a second let’s pretend you have not had internet over the last 4 months. This is the false reality that you currently and blissfully remain. Rovers are on the up, Blackburn are performing better without Rhodes and that we have a Transfer window to “get excited about” According to Lambert. Unfortunately this is the reality that you wake up to. All the excitement that surrounded the club just over 2 months ago has been completely shrouded over by the fact that Lambert had to literally demand communication from the Venkys but he didn’t so he left, plus the added tension after Director Alan Myers departed the club after previously stating that he would only leave the team if he didn’t believe that the club was moving in the right direction. We are left in a position where the next steps for the club can only be decided by the Venkys, but if they refuse to make contact how can we move forward?
Now in another situation let’s imagine that at the end of this season all of our loan signings leave the club. We lose Graham, Gomez and grimes. Arguably 3 of the best players in the team towards the end of last season (debatable). Then we discover that the Venkys will not give the new manager the money that he wants. Then the odds are that we would lose Duffy, Marshall, Hanley and possibly more. Then let’s imagine that our out of contract player aren’t ‘rewarded’ with a new contract. We could be left in a situation where we have only 13 players left in the team! Obviously that’s a worst case scenario but it is a very realistic prospect that in 1 month we have no strikers! Delfouneso, Brown, Jackson all out of contract Graham gone. So who would we turn to?
And the fact is as every day passes without a word from the Venkys this result becomes forever more possible. And to be honest I don’t remember the last time the Venkys actually said anything! The least they could do is release a statement saying that they are considering their options or that they are going to say something soon! At the moment we have been building a wanted list of managers for 3 weeks!
What’s scary is that at the moment the situation that we are currently in is frighteningly like that of Bolton’s and Blackpool’s! And you could deny this all you want but let me show you the similarity:

Obviously we can never be sure of next season anything could happen. But at the rate at which all 3 of these clubs are spiralling down I have a very bad feeling that this could be the case. Now there are many other factors to take into account like the huge debt Bolton are in which is similar to Blackburn or Blackpool’s mass fan protest against the Oystons. Sound familiar? What scares me on this table is that fact that when I look at it you can see the steady decline of each club. Even Blackpool finished in the playoff places! And Bolton Finished 7th! Which are both higher than where we have finished in 4 seasons! Now I’m not saying that rovers will end up the same but this is looking way to familiar. And Bolton are just one step ahead with Blackpool a step ahead of them!
Huge debt, Un-moving owners, fan protests, Rapid game attendance decline and out of contract players. This is something that all 3 clubs have had in common over the past 4 years and it doesn’t seem to be changing, after the Seneca Partners offered Blackburn fresh investment a lot of fans turned up their nose’s. The idea that some fresh investment could be about to enter the club made fans very happy, but there was this sense that we had been here before. The Seneca Partners had in 2013 already offered to have takeover talks with the Venkys but the Venkys had declined, and today guess what news has started to spread? The Venkys have declined the offer. And again we are left at square one. Genuinely ask yourself this how far can Blackburn go with the Venkys? The answer is absolutely nowhere! To me what it looks like is the Venkys are waiting until a big money buyer come in with a huge offer, so that they can make something back after their recent losses. But who, with money, would want to buy us? Fill a £100m pound whole and then start to invest in the club, it would have to be someone massive. I’m afraid that the Venkys are just going to keep waiting, see which breaks first them or the club. If we survive in the championship next season then it will be a miracle.
I read an article a few weeks ago saying that League 1 teams have 5 years to reach the premier league. This was because of the idea that the money that each team would get from being promoted would eventually mean that you would be left with the same teams getting promoted and relegated each year, effectively monopolising the top 2 leagues. And I agree, for Blackburn to be relegated in the next 3 years would be absolutely devastating we be left struggling to get back into the championship, because of the increasing rate at which the quality in the championship is growing. But this is football and at the moment anything could happen so all we can do is pray that the fans get behind the club and push the players on, and hopefully we can re-stabilise a fast sinking ship.
