Well believe it or not it has already been a month of the new season and in those 31 days expectations for the new season have dropped rapidly.
1st August:
Funny thing is we actually started this month with a win. A 3-0 victory over now league 1 Wigan set a tone that really isn't being heard at the moment. The most memorable moment of the game being when Marshall scored a beauty for 30 yards plus to put a cap on what had been a very one sided affair. After the game the reaction of fans had been a good one many people now expected us to take this win in our stride and get the first win of the new season. This was not to be.
8th August: The new season was here and fans where filled with excitement and anticipation as this is the championship where anything can happen. One of the main attractions to the new season was the excitement of seeing some of the new faces in the team. With the additions of Koita, Guthrie, Delfouneso, Petshi with 3 more player to be added later. Even thought rovers lost the game it was the controversy that overclouded the game after footage confirmed most fans fears that wolves second goal shouldn't have been given as it was a clear hand ball. Although The result could have been very different as Rovers were made to rue missed opportunities.
11th August:
Yet again the spirits of Blackburns deflated fans would not be helped by the result this day when league 1 side Shrewsbury came to Ewood in the captal one cup. Once again Rovers' bad form in this competition continued after what can only be described as diabolical defending left Blackburns giving up to goals in the first half. Good news from this game is that new signing Nathan Delfouneso got his first goal for the club.
15th August:
Blackburns first away match of the season didn't end as good as it should have either with Both sides sharing the spoils at the end of the game. Delfouneso saved the point for Rovers in the second half after vollying home Koita's headed cross. But Rovers fans still awaited there first win of the new season.
18th August:
Fans would still have to wait for that win even after today as Cardiff came to town and again Blackburn would share the spoils. Once again the opposition scored first and Blackburn again were made to play catch up. This game in truth was a game we should have won Rovers were by far the better team but AGAIN were made to rue missed opportunities and were forced into the draw.
22nd August:
How may time must the phrases missed opportunities and should have won the game be used. This game really was an opportunity for the first win and really the game should have been wrapped up in the first half after shot after shot was wasted and in form Lua Lua made us pay for those opportunities. The rest of the day was covered with rumour after rumour over Bowyer having been sacked. But Rovers came out and announced that this was not so.
28 August:
Most recently the Bolton game...very boring and probably Blackburn's worst performance so far a game with no goals and to be honest we should have seen it coming. We haven't scored the first goal in any of our games and Bolton had only scored 1. Yet again Rovers should have won. But it wasn't to be.
Overall:
Very repetitive month. Games that we should have won and games that we could won passed us bye and we all are still waiting for that first win. We are not in the relegation zone but now it looks like that's the position we are trying to avoid. I wrote a blog early in the season about realistic expectations. I think now we know. Mid table is highest we're getting this season.
Also thanks to Gian for the idea of a monthly review.
