Boy am I excited about next season, not because of the teams we’ll be playing or the grounds we’ll be visiting (Because if anything that’s going to be quite depressing) but instead it’s all the winning we are going to be doing. Now honestly I haven’t felt this positive about an upcoming season since well my whole conscious life. We might end up getting silverware! Obviously won’t be the most illustrious of trophies if we do, but it’s still silverware! And to this date I have never seen Blackburn win anything! The last time that we did I was 3 so it’s a bit of a distant memory to say the least. But finally a season comes around and I’m thinking there are 2 potential trophies that we could win. However this overhauled excitement is also overshadowed by the fact that this is a Venkys era Blackburn and anything is possible we could still sell a load of players, as of yet the only player who looks like they are going is Connor ‘traitor’ Mahoney, I wrote a piece praising you Connor before you broke through the ranks and this is how you repay the team you support! Sorry. Anyway I genuinely believe that if we can keep hold of 9 of the first 11 from last season when we will go straight back up and I think we’ll win the league as well.
If we do win league next year then there will be only one man to thank and that is big TM a manager who has looked at the team and with very little time has realised something that the fans have known for a very long time. We lack creative midfielders! At the end of last season we released Hope Akpan, Danny Guthrie and Jason Lowe three midfielders who I think you will agree were not at their best all season and never really added anything attacking. So after this Blackburn have been left with one out and out central midfielder in Corry Evans and a handful of others who could fill the role but are more defensive minded players so within 3 weeks of the window opening Mowbray has brought in two CM’s in the shape of Wittingham who will add a creative spark we have lacked for a long time and Smallwood a proper box to box centre mid and since and in the last day it has been confirmed that we have made an enquiry in the availability of Gillingham’s own versatile midfielder Bradley Dack.
When I first heard his name mentioned on twitter I thought this was just one of those toss away rumours that had just been made up on the spot because if you haven’t heard of Bradley Dack, to summarise he is a 23 year old attacking CM who on one season ago won League 1 player of the year Other players who have won that award are Jermain Beckford, Joe Garner, Matt Ritchie and Jordan Rhodes. He since then had attracted interest from the Premier League and Championship and was subject of a £2 million bid from Bristol only last season according to the telegraph the fee should have decreased substantially since that but for an English midfielder with his talent I’m not convinced. If we do get Dack then in my opinion he’ll be our signing of the summer I’ve heard his name mentioned several times over the course of the last few years not to mention the amount of times that I have signed him on football manger let’s just say I’ll be a very happy guy indeed. Him, Smallwood and Wittingham will be the trio we need to get us straight back up no questions asked!
Then after that I would imagine that Mowbray would turn his attention to strikers a position that we probably need more than anywhere else.
Thanks for reading.
