For the first time in a long time Blackburn Rovers are left with a problem that is really racking my head. Out of Emnes, Gallagher and Graham who should be the two main men starting up top.
If all fit and playing well this is genuinely a question that needs an answer! Gallagher on top form this season bagging goals all over the shop, and as our top scorer with 7 goals so far this season! But then you have Graham, everyone loves Danny for his constant work rate and since coming back from injury has increased his tally to 5 goals, with 3 in his last 3 games. But then we’ve got *clap clap* Marvin Emnes! This man has set Blackburn alight with his speed, skill and overall contribution to the team. In his first few game Marvin Scored three and Assisted three when we had our little run of form. His style of play has literally added a dimensions that we’ve not had in a long time, that being a player who fully fills the false 9 role. For years we have relied on target men and Centre forwards to finish off midfield play, I mean come on Rhodes never really wanted to pass a ball? So in my mind Emnes should always be playing even if he’s not scoring goals. That’s why I ask Gallagher or Graham?
So to answer this question I have visited my old friend the ‘Squawka Comparison Matrix’ I mean come on you didn’t think knew all these stats out my head right? Now obviously Graham has missed a few games through injury so it would be unfair to judge off total stats, so instead I’m going to be looking at their Averages per game to even things out.
Now it’s really close, actually hard to tell the two apart. First off is there attacking score, now this score is judged much like a fantasy football score, but in more detail taking into account Goals, assists, shots on target, pass completion, chances created and many other things. Overall Gallagher obviously dominates with his more games but per 90 things are very evenly matched with Graham on 11.77 per game but Gallagher slightly edging on 11.94. Literally not half a point in it, that’s like the equivalent of one shot on target!
Now this season Gallagher has scored 7 goals and assisted 1 but Graham has scored 5 assisting 2 so in terms of contributing to goals Gallagher edges it by one but Graham has more assists.
Now it’s looking pretty good for Gallagher at the moment however even though Gallagher may have more goals Graham actually edges goals per game by 0.01% (weather or not this makes a significant difference, you be the judge) Graham also takes pass completion 67% compared to 53%. Graham seems to also have a vastly greater contribution when it comes to defending, beating Gallagher on both interceptions and Blocks and committing less fouls per game?
So who do you think should start? Gallagher or Graham? Or do you think they should both be on and Emnes should be benched? Graham is the man on form at the moment but Gallagher has shown his class, would you rather have a defensive forward or a target man? Put it this way for me it’s close to call with Graham maybe edging it on current form. Thanks for reading!
